On Saturday 21st May the Clubland doors were open once again for a celebration of the life of Revd Jimmy Butterworth and the launch of a book commemorating his ministry. Organised and hosted by the Butterworth family, the afternoon event included displays of photographs, newspaper clippings and numerous artifacts from the Clubland era, including material held by Southwark Heritage Centre. Speakers included ministers past and present, and there was a short lecture on the history of Clubland. Invited guests included Neil Coyle MP, representatives of Southwark Heritage, the Walworth Society, Historic England – and of course, former Clublanders. Those attending were able to tour the premises and some were able to identify familiar names on the plaques that line the walls of the former Quad (now the Southwark Peace Garden). It was a great opportunity to remember and celebrate the legacy of the church and the pioneering youth work carried out under the ministry of Jimmy Butterworth.
