Sunday Worship
SUNDAYS AT WALWORTH
Sunday is the day when we, as a church, gather together.
Most Sundays there are two services. Since we resumed worship after the Covid lockdown these have been at 9.30am and 11.00am, but these times are subject to review. The 9.30am service is a more ‘traditional’ Methodist service lasting about an hour. The 11.00am service is longer and reflects the African cultural background of the majority of our members, including African choruses, a walk-up offering, and a time to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and thanksgivings.
Robed choirs assist in the leading of worship at both services, with the 11.30am choir often singing an anthem. Holy Communion is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 9.30am and the 1st Sunday of each month at 11am. There are separate activities for children at the 11.30am service.
Our 11.30am worship service is broadcast live via Zoom and on our YouTube Channel. Recordings of past services can also be found on this channel.
After Sunday worship, there is usually something going on at Walworth – we are a very active church! Most Sundays at least one of our fellowships meets. Often there will be food, especially if a special thanksgiving service has taken place – or sometimes just because one of our members has something to celebrate and wants to share their joy with others.
SUNDAY SCHOOL
There has been a Sunday School at Walworth off and on for over 200 years, although we are about to celebrate our 12th Thanksgiving service on 26th June 2022.
Sunday school is divided into two classes, that is: lower and upper school
- The Lower School ages 3-8 years old
- The Upper School ages 9-16 years old
We celebrate the children’s birthdays monthly, but we have been unable since the covid, this we plan to commence back soon.
During the covid, we engaged the children twice weekly via zoom with lots of activities, which was successful. It was nice coming back to church and having the children around.
Every Sunday, we do bible passages relating to the day’s sermon and differentiate to meet the children’s needs according to their age group. We support the younger ones during the lesson with videos, images, art and craft.
For the older ones, we do organise talks and activities for them.
We provide refreshments for the children during Sunday school with support from the teachers, parents, and patrons.
